Power Converter with World-class Efficiency and Thermal Management

Ericsson has released the newest addition to its wide range of board mounted DC/DC power converter modules, offering world-class efficiency and thermal management. The new high-power converter is built upon Ericsson’s advanced Hybrid Regulated Ratio (HRR) technology, which brings excellent power conversion with minimal losses.

The new high-power converter is built upon Ericsson’s advanced Hybrid Regulated Ratio (HRR) technology, which brings excellent power conversion with minimal losses.

The new PKB4313D is a 12 V, low-profile, DC/DC converter module that delivers up to 300 W of power suitable for ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) applications. Its input voltages that ranges from 36 to 75 Vdc meets the European Telecom Standard Institute requirements for the ETS 300 132-2 standard. Being designed to operate in different thermal environments, the PKB4313D can offer up to 96% efficiency with reduced energy and cooling costs.

The PKB4313D uses two regulation modes – the regulated ratio mode that tracks the input voltage with a fixed proportion, and the hybrid regulated mode that seamlessly swaps between ratio regulated mode to a normally regulated mode. Ericsson’s highly innovative HRR topology gives the greatest advantage over other competitive products with its enhanced powertrain that employs full-bridge synchronous rectification on the primary side not commonly found in other competitive devices. To provide an input voltage feed-forward function, the HRR technology uses a fast adaption system that filters sudden changes in the input voltage and a slow adaption system that blocks fast input voltage transients and slowly adapts to the new input voltage. Reduction in the overall power loss is achieved due to this advanced control scheme.

Overall, the new product offers a compelling package that delivers significant competitive advantage to customers operating at the cutting edge in a range of telecom, networking and industrial applications.”

The eight-brick, ISO 9001/14001 certified PKB4313D measures 58.4 x 22.7 x 9.6 mm or 2.30 x 0.89 x 0.38 in, and generally comes with input under voltage shutdown, monotonic start-up, remote control, output over voltage protection, and output short-circuit protection. An optional baseplate and SMD version are also available.

Ericsson is confident that the new PKB4313D can meet the industry’s standards for DC/DC power converters in achieving the highest quality and system performance in the telecom, network, as well as industrial applications.
