MSR7810WUP Series: low-cost, miniature, 1.0 A POL switching regulator

The MSR7805WUP series is a family of miniature, switching voltage regulators that provide up to 1.0 A of output current. While they are designed to be pin compatible with linear regulators such as the LM78xx, they offer many advantages including very high efficiency (no need for a heat sink), and small size.

Four standard models operate from inputs that range from 6.0 VDC to 36 VDC,  providing tightly regulated outputs of 3.3, 5, -5, 12, -12, 15, or -15 VDC. Standard features include efficiency as high as 95%, very low noise operation and tight line/load regulation. All models are approved to EN 60950 and have continuous short circuit protection. The 5 V, 12 V and 15 V models can be easily configured to produce a negative output. The MTBF of the MSR7810WUP series is greater than 2.0 Mhours (per MIL HDBK 217F).

Fabricated as a miniature, unpotted (open board) unit, the MSR7810WUP is only 0.689 x 0.453 x 0.295 inches (17.5 x 11.5 x 7.50 mm). The pin-out is compatible with LM78xx type linear regulators. Each model is specified for operation over the wide industrial operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C with no heat sinking required. Cooling is by free-air convection.

The MSR7810WUP series offers many advantages including very high efficiency, a wide operating temperature range with no heat sink requirement, negative output capability and continuous short circuit protection. They have a very small board footprint and require a minimum of external components (two capacitors, the same as most LM78xx regulators) for optimum performance.
