Excelsys Technologies announces that its CoolX600 series of 600-W convection-cooled modular power supplies is now approved to IEC 62368-1 – Part 1, the new safety standard for audio, video, information and communication technology equipment. The standard has been created to provide a single approval covering the increasing overlap in design and functionality of professional and domestic equipment.
The safety of IT and communications equipment is covered by the IEC 60950-1 while IEC 60065 covers the safety of audio, video and similar electronic apparatus. This new standard IEC 62368-1, covering all of these equipment types, was introduced in 2010 and will replace the IEC 60950-1 and IEC 60065 by 2019. After the 20th of June 2019 equipment manufacturers will no longer be able to claim compliance to the legacy standards. The 3rd edition of the IEC 62368-1 standard is currently under development by TC 108 and due to be released in the 2nd half of 2018, i.e. before the legacy standards are withdrawn.
IEC 62368-1:2014 covers the safety of electronic equipment within the field of audio, video, information and communication technology, and business and office machines. Parts of the standard are also applicable to components and sub-assemblies intended for incorporation in such equipment.
The IEC 62368-1 approved CoolX600 convection-cooled power supply series is the latest user configurable modular power supply that delivers 600 W without fan assisted cooling from an 8.5 x 4.5 x 1U package. Typical efficiency is >93% and offers typically 25% longer lifetime than competitors. It also offers a 5 year warranty.
The series is available with full safety certifications to UL/EN60950 and UL/EN60601 3rd and 4th Edition (EMC) for both industrial and medical applications. Medical features include BF rating (Body Floating), dual fusing, 2 x MOPP, <300uA leakage current.
All outputs are isolated and may be connected in series or parallel to achieve higher output voltages or currents. Mounting options include base, side and Din rail alternatives. Additional features include SEMI F47 compliance, and operation at 5000-m altitude. A 25 W standby power output is also a standard feature. The CoolX600 can be populated with up to 4 CoolMods, providing up to 4 isolated DC outputs ranging from 2.5V to 58.0V. Excelsys Technologies: www.excelsys.com
